"KISS": the Secret to Great T-Shirt Design

  • Apr 8, 2021

T-shirts are a great way to get your message out. They can represent an event you attended, your favorite pub, or even an inspiring idea. We have seen a lot of designs over the years and the best ones have something in common. KISS. "Keep It Super Simple".

Complexity is a major factor. At a quick glance people should be able to read your message and understand what you are trying to convey. Limit your type down to necessary information and pare down the graphics. While intricate and elaborate layouts have their place in the world, a t-shirt should be a summary of your more detailed work.

Readability is another thing to consider. While there are millions of fun fonts out there, keep in mind that a little bit goes a long way.

Placement doesn't have to be boring. Get creative. Small logos look good on the sleeve or even the back yoke.

Proportion can be equally important. People and their t-shirts come in a wide range of sizes, try to find a width for your design that will work on the largest and smallest sizes.

Last but not least; color. Screen printers charge more for each color used. Limiting your color palette will save on costs.

Have a concept and need some help? We offer a full range of graphic design services to take you from ideation to completion.
